Family-friendly vacations: Dining in Orlando
|
The world is your oyster in Orlando, with a variety of dining experiences to suit every taste — for parents and kids. While visiting the city with my family last month, we tried a number of different locales, but we particularly enjoyed Planet Hollywood, as well as the Rainforest Cafe at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom.
Planet Hollywood Orlando
Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney is a movie aficionado’s heaven, featuring a number of props and memorabilia from some of Hollywood’s most recognizable films and television programs.
Of course, music is a big part of the draw, with a giant screen pumping out videos while you enjoy your meal. Fare includes traditional American, such as steak, pasta and specialty sandwiches.
From a parent’s perspective, I was heartened to see many parents with children in tow — from babies to teens — all enjoying the ambiance, despite the fact we were there later in the evening. It’s definitely a family-friendly locale, the service was top-notch and the wait staff made sure the family was well accommodated. There are a variety of seating options as well, including tables and booths, which is helpful if you have a large brood in tow.

Rainforest Cafe
From the rush of cascading waterfalls to the visual excitement of lush vegetation complete with animated wildlife, the Rainforest Cafe is a treat for the senses.
Whether you’re young or old, you will have a “wild” experience at this unique restaurant located at the foot of Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom — a fitting location, as this “safari for the senses” is the perfect locale to keep both kids and adults engaged and entertained.
Of course, let’s not forget the food — which was great, in my opinion. I had the cedar-plank Atlantic salmon, while the kids enjoyed pizza and grilled cheese from the kids’ menu. Aside from the great food, we really felt like we were in the depths of the rainforest, which was an experience in and of itself.
